Being asleep in a tent and awakening at sunrise to the raucous call of a Pileated Woodpecker (the one Woody was fashioned after) is indeed a favorite camping or hiking experience. This one is a juvenile male on a tree at Contentnea Creek in Greene County, NC. His crest was more rounded than pointed and his color not mature. This painting is the second of The Contentnea Creek Collection of wildlife and flora along a certain section of Contentnea Creek.
