This portrait of a trip, events, places and nature was a terrific experience to paint. The focus of the painting is a couple, who had one place in mind, Spirit Cay in the beautiful see-through turquoise waters of the Exumas in the Bahamas.
With Highbourne & Tea Table Cays in view beyond the plants on the upper right, this painting takes in the various ports of the trip at while at sea. Beginning at the bottom right in Vero Beach at Loggerhead Marina, to exotic Boca Chita Key in southern most Florida complete with straw sipped coconut water from fresh cut coconuts by machete. The couple sits on the bow of the boat looking towards the Bahamas in the crystal clear 1950′s blue teal waters after a magnificent, warm Gulf Stream crossing. Apricot umbrellas of the prestigious Lyford Cay Club on Providence Island give way to the beguiling Chub Cay in the Berries with the tiki thatched pool.
The senses are then invited into view the impossible to create exhilarating dark blue green color of the thousands of feet deep Tongue of the Ocean. The star shaped house on Spirit Cay of friends of theirs complete the painting with their swims to the shore in search of the many treasures of the ocean —nature’s shells of the islands. The center of the painting depicts the many settings of Bahamian moors set on this trip by dinghy. No trip to the Exumas is complete without watching the tempting orange sun, setting on the horizon daring you to see its bright green flash. Yes, the portrait of a voyage… to experience the encapsulating sensual spirit, the spirit…of Spirit Cay….
